Improve Your Research Skills

It’s never too early in the semester to improve your research skills. The library will be hosting a 30 minute class designed to help students learn how to do library research more effectively. All four classes listed below contain the same content, just choose one that fits your schedule. Topics include:

Finding books
Finding journals and articles
Using the databases
Classes will be held:

Monday, January 30th from 5:45 to 6:15

Tuesday, January 31st from 5:45 to 6:15

Wednesday, February 1st from 5:45 to 6:15

Thursday, February 2nd from 5:45 to 6:15

No registration is necessary. We hope to see you there!

Biegler Library Will be Closed on 1/16/12

Biegler Library will be closed on Monday, January 16th in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

The library will re-open on Tuesday, January 17th at 2:00 p.m.

Library Hours During Winter Break

Winter Break begins on December 10. Biegler Library will observe the following hours during the break:

Monday – Thursday 2:00pm – 7:00pm

Friday 9:00am – 2:00pm

Closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Biegler Library will close on Friday, December 23 and reopen on Monday, January 2.

Library materials may be returned at any time by leaving them in Biegler Library’s drop box located outside the main entrance to the Rice Campus.

The library will resume normal operating hours on Monday, January 9. Our daily hours and upcoming closures can be viewed on our Hours page.

Borrowing Books During Winter Break

If you have already registered for spring semester classes, you will be able to borrow books during Winter Break.

If you have not yet registered for spring semester classes and want to borrow books during Winter Break, you will need to complete the Winter Break Library Privileges Form.

Winter Break begins December 10th.

Thanksgiving Hours

Biegler Library will observe the following hours for the week of November 21:

Monday, November 21 – 2:00pm – 9:30pm
Tuesday, November 22 – 2:00pm – 9:30pm
Closed Wednesday, November 23 through Sunday, November 27

Textbooks on Reserve

Copies of many of the textbooks used in classes held on Rice Campus can be found in Biegler Library’s Course Reserves collection. To borrow a reserve textbook, ask for it at the circulation desk. Reserve books may be checked out for two hours at a time and cannot leave the library.

Summer Privileges Form

The Summer Privileges Form is for students who are registered for classes in the Summer or Fall 2011 semesters and want to have access to library resources during the Summer – including borrowing IIT materials, on-site borrowing at I-Share libraries, document delivery and interlibrary loan. Privileges granted through this form last from May 8 – August 22, 2011.

National Library Week 2011

Celebrate National Library Week in Biegler Library the week of April 11th. Stop by the library to read a journal, browse the leisure reading section or enter the contest to win a Chipotle gift card. All you had to do is guess how many gummy bookworms are in the jar!

The last day to enter your guess in the contest is Saturday, April 16th. The contest is open to IIT faculty, staff and students only.

Spring Break Hours

The Louis W. Biegler Library will be open 2:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m. March 14-March 17 and 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on March 19th. The library will be closed on Friday, March 18th and Sunday, March 20th.
